Musical Exposure

Hey,

Today has been the typical Saturday, hot and boring. Though I did manage to finally apply for aid, loans, and college. A productive day indeed.

But in a more interesting note, I think its time I expose some of you gajin (foreigners) of to some Japanese Rock.

I began to listen to Japanese rock about 5 years ago, as a friend turned me onto it. I know what you may be thinking. Why the hell would you listen to Japanese rock? Do you know Japanese? Why not just an American band?

Well, to be frank Japanese music is better. Its "epic" the styles over there are different from anything we in the states have ever heard of. I have always admired the Japanese, and their ability to take anything remotely western and make it crazy, and amazing.

No I do not speak, nor understand a majority of japanese. I can't explain why I listen to the lyrics, yet do not understand them. I could easily look up translations on the many fan sites, that post the lyrics. But I chose not too, its kind of fun thinking the song is whatever you want it to be. You just listen to the feeling of the song, and take it from there.

So here it is, part one of attempt to expose you to some good JROCK:

Miyavi [me-ya-ve] - An amazing guitarist, he originally started out in a indie band called De La Quartz. The band had a few semi-large singles in Japan before it disbanded and its lead guitarist Miyavi went onto his own solo career. Miyavi has the ability to make every album unique. He constantly changes fashion, and music stylings with each single or album (think Madonna, only not old, and has talent). With some of his early work "Jibum Kakumei" you see an artist having fun with what he's doing, yet clearly showing his talent. As he matured, such works as "Freedom Fighters" came, showing his ability to make a statement, and create great rock. In his latest works, he showcases his ability to make an entire band out of his acoustic guitar. His latest ambition is in mixing hip hop, acoustic rock, and traditional rock into a funky mix of japanese good-ness. Miyavi has toured all throughout Japan, and is now signed to Universal Music Group. He has done numerous world tour dates, and has even played in America. He is currently on tour through out the world.

Here is a video for Miyavi's single Are You Ready to Rock?
