Love.com is a unique japanese film, and I mean that in a so-so way. I've been a fan of japanese culture for some time (though I lack the obsession assosciated with most dorks) and I've known for a while that japanese popular cinema sucks. The films are usually to cute and lack any sort of real plot, or real acting skills. That is true about this film but for some odd reason I enjoyed it. This is another japanese film that was adapted from a anime/manga (shocker there)
The main plot is about a girl (Ema Fujisaw) who is taller then most guys she's interested and is never able to find a boyfriend because of it, and a boy (Teppei Koike) who is to short to find a girlfriend. I think we all know where this is going.
Through out an hour, the two find out they really don't care about height issues and agree to fall in love with eachother. The plot is simple, and the acting so-so but the film was freaking cute. It played up the japanese obsession with kawaii (cute) decor, clothing, and even music (though some of the musical acts in this film are down right freaky IE Japanese hardcore rap). The "kawaii" factor of this film made it an interesting background-checker. A background checker is when you forget about the main focus of the film and pay attention to the scenes behind them. This film was perfect for that, take that as an compliment or insult. However you see fit.
I say give this movie a shot, it is a sum up of japanese popular films and it gives a funny insight to the popular customs of japanese youth.
